I am asking this question for my niece who lost her job back in August. We live in North Carolina. The question is...why does it take so long? It is impossible to get through to them on the phone and I check the status for her daily on my computer. Once she got through and was told that the normal wait time for an answer is 6-8 weeks! Is that true? What are they doing all this time? In her situation my niece was working in a hostile work environment and when she finally complained to her manager she was let go. So it was basically like if you don't like it then you are fired. The owner and the office manager were husband and wife and would fight all the time with screaming and yelling profanity, slamming doors, snatching things from her hand, etc. She told that her nerves were so shook at the end of the day. She hated going to work. Now it seems like the employer may be vindictive and saying some crazy stuff against her and slowing up her claim. My niece is a easy going person and I can't imagine what they would say but could this be part of the hold up? She has been waiting for a month and still no answer from unemployment.
