Darfur Art exhibit paired with annual Schwa Show at Greenville's Emerge Gallery. Through September, The Emerge Gallery and Arts Center in Greenville will host the exhibition- "15 for Darfur" It can be viewed in the %th street Gallery (AKA the stairwell) while the Schwa show will be hosted in their main gallery space. "15 for Darfur" is composed of 15 works on canvas and a bronze monument that exploit the race killings in Southern Sudan that continue in Darfur. Plaques with eyewitness testimonies hang beside "pop art" depicting everything from rusted cars, to Einstein and coupled with photographs of victims that have been contributed by the actress turned activist, Mia Farrow. The creator of "15 for Darfur", Kilian, is a resident of Columbia NC. He has shown his art exhibit in Coffee shops, used clothing stores, college campus's and now within art Galleries. " I want to bring Darfur to the heart of our communities, Darfur has seen the face of evil, the least we can do is extend them the dignity to be heard" - explains Kilian. " I have purposely composed the exhibit so those that really don't want to digest the reality of Darfur can do so, however, If you look a little closer, watch out, it might just change how you view the world and yourself!" While the exhibit runs through September 28th, Kilian will be preparing to travel to the border of Darfur this late fall to provide humanitarian aid. Kilian's full proceeds of Canvas' sales go directly to relief aid and commissioning of the exhibit's bronze monument will build a hospital is Southern Sudan bordering Darfur.
